The old man wanders into the Work & Lurk Cafe pushing a cart loaded with a selection of cereals and milk, toasted English muffins with butter & jam, banana-nut & cinnamon muffins, coffee, tea, and juice... drops a nickel in the jukebox and selects B16, "Funeral For A Friend" by Elton John, for Sawyer... pours himself a Tuneful-Tuesday-sized coffee and takes his usual seat in the corner...

It's Tuneful Tuesday!!

Feel free to feed the jukebox.

It's LOST Day!!!

According to Las Vegas odds makers, the over/under for deaths on Lost tonight is 2.

MrHernandez- Not really sure... the losses at Wisconsin and Illinois hurt our standings bad, dangit! It definately doesn't help that Kalin Lucas is out on injury. We won't know until tonight if he is playing against Purdue. We are going to the Tip-Off Cafe in the lower level at the Breslin Arena, a dinner before each game, and Tom Izzo usually comes in and talks for a couple of minutes, plus others. Hopefully we will hear something from the man himself!

*keeps her fingers crossed for Kalin*

Good thing I have DVR and am taping Lost tonight as well, cause I can't be here to watch it! GAH!

YoSoy----OK, I again watched Kimmel interview Darlton. You really have to see and hear them answer this because I found that A--The question is just as important as the answer, and B--Voice and gesture are key to the meaning of words.
Kimmel asked-- "Is John Locke possessed by the MIB?"

Damon says-- "Uhhhh,No."

Kimmel is astounded and says-- "Hes Not????!!!!"

Damon looks up, ponders, repeats-- "No." with a little smirky grin, then looks at Carlton and says "Well, (pause)no." They both exchange a look.

Carlton then chimes in-- "You actually saw a big bit of info about John Locke. I mean he revealed he was the smoke monster on the show tonight."

I think Damon's hesitation is his attempt not to reveal too much, so he gives a very short, literal answer. Carlton then tries to deflect attention away from the question, by reminding Kimmel of the big Smokey reveal in the eppy.

We all know the MIB isnt possessing Locke. Locke is dead on the beach. Kimmel asked the wrong question. He should have asked about UnLocke. And just the fact that Carlton referred to theUnLocke/Smokey reveal referencing Locke is a tell. I'm convinced--UnLocke=Smokey=MIB

In 6.01, when Alana tells Richard that Jacob invited her, and Richard replies "Asking me who's in the shadow of the damned statue doesn't make you in charge", does Richard sound like he holds some animosity towards Tawaret or do you think he's just stressed out by the general situation?

Does the fact that the Saints won the Superbowl for the first time rank right up there with the Red Socks World Series victory? (Wait for it.....)!

I was rewatching an old movie titled "Silver Bullet" and I noticed that one of the character's names in the credits was Philip "Laflore" who played "Smokey". The main character was wheelchair-bound and no one believed him when he said he saw something extraordinary. The bartender had a 'Jesus stick', a baseball bat with the word 'Peacemaker' inscribed on it. The priest was not who he seemed to be. (What's that, Mr. Eko)? The man at the beginning of the show was a drunken, middle-aged man who was repairing railroad ties. (He didn't have a mop, but still...). Best of all, Terry O'Quinn played the sheriff!

If Locke were to rewrite a certain song to fit the occasion, it would go something like this....
"I hung myself,
and then I killed off all my deputies"!

Patty--save the McCutcheons for serious brain freeze. I recommend margaritas for keeping the brain goo pliable! And I think you're right that They All Everybody were s'posed to meet and interact.

DavidisTotallyLost--I read that most of the Haroun story takes place on a moon whose orbit takes it over every single point on earth . The moon mostly is comprised of a massive Ocean composed of an infinity of stories, and at its South Pole is a spring, the Source of Stories, from which originated all stories ever communicated. Hmmmm, I can see some referents.

Yuka--S'pose Daniel Dae Kim will be the Dano sidekick ? Book em Dano !

YoSoy-- Now I gotta go re-listen to Kimmel show! I dont see how unLocke could NOT be MIB ?!

MrHernandez- obviously the saints won because their outfits were more flashy :P

Bad_wobot- woot for Castle!!!

sparkles- thank you for reminding me of the circle between Sayid and Ben and the temple. Very interesting...

Davidistotallylost- thank you!! I must have re-wound and paused the show 85 times and could never catch what Desmond's book was. Now I have to look it up. I'm big on the books in each eppie.

Patty- I know we all like the concept of free choice, but I'm going to have to maintain that if in the Lost 'verse we are dealing with destiny, it wouldn't matter what choices we make, destined things will still happen. We just have to find out what facts are destined and which ones don't matter. For example, is it destiny that Jack has a relationship with Kate, or that he receives 2 vodka mini-bottles from Cindy? If it is destined for them to be together, it will happen regardless of the path the people take. See what I mean?

Loca- I was under the impression that MIB is smokey and un-Locke...I saw the Kimmel, but I don't recall if they said any different. Shrug

Ha I've just realized the interesting fact that Ben was healed in the temple because he was shot by Sayid and, from Sayid's point of view, a few days later Sayid was in the temple getting healed because he was shot by Ben's dad.

Did Sayid ever learn Ben was healed by Richard Alpert? I guess that does explain why Kate and Jack followed Hurley to the temple so easily - they probably had a inkling that the Temple was the place Richard had healed Ben once Hurley had mentioned it.

Howdy everyone, been away for a couple of days, only just caught up!

Well, here's a thought I had - maybe MIB was killed in the jughead timeline? I don't remember seeing smokey in 1977 (someone tell me if I'm wrong??), so smokey could have been created by the explosion. Or at least, smokey didn't appear until after the incident.

Also, I wonder if we'll ever find out who was shooting at the Losties in the canoe's during the skips?

I don't know if anyone's brought this up yet,
but the parallel realities make me think of
the theory of how new realities are spun off
from every choice we make, or don't make.
So, if we turn left we also turn right in some
other parallel universe. I think it may be related to
string theory?

Anyway, Jacob is all about freedom of choice.
What those choices lead to may or may not
be progress, but he may be implying that if
the right choices are made, then things can
finally end and the cycle will be broken.

Maybe that's what SMIB means by going home.

Ok onto Lost - First, thanks Rev, we're synchin'. :)

Now...seriously, someone help me out here, because I thought I was clear on this Smokey/MIB thing and now I'm not. I thought that on Kimmel Darlton said that un-Locke IS NOT the MIB. But we do know that un-Locke IS Smokey. So how can the MIB and Smokey be the same thing?

The one line that has me questioning that I caught the whole thing wrong is that Jacob said to un-Locke "I guess you found your loophole." I'm totally confused. Did I hear them wrong on Kimmel?

Please and thank you! :)

The time period that 815 is in would have made the season opener a little more.. wow.. for me. I tried to look at Jacks watch to
see if it gave a date but no luck... His hair being long and all the little things that were different makes me think that it's in a
different time period than before.. And the fact that Desmond was on the plane also says something bid too.. Not the fact that is
is gone when Jack comes back to his seat, just that he is even on the plane...

Anybody else have a theory as to what time period 815 is in???

Jdam - I thought Smokey could've been the culpit, but he had all those times and never did.

SMIB said in the finale of S5 to Jacob on the beach, next to the Statue, "you know how much I want to kill you" ....... and then he could've said..."but since I can't, I'm just gonna make your day a little more sucky"...and then turned into the Black Smoke and right there, destroyed the Statue.

I think we've already seen what happens to statues when they aren't made to serve the right 'individual'. Their heads are torn off and lobbed down Main Street! I'll bet Cloudy One (I'm renaming him) huffed and puffed and blew that old statue down.

Wow. According to the Lost Complete Collection cover, all the answers we ever needed were located in one of the D.I. supply-drop pallets??? Oh Hurley, I bet there was a list in the bottom of that ranch dressing jar you sloshed all over the jungle!

One more serious thought for the road. If Jacob hates technology, why did all of his worshippers have guns? I know guns and gunpowder have been around a while, but still you would think the use of such things right on the temple doorstep would be bad karma? Right???

Finally, summing up Lost. Guardians guarding The Guardian from entering the ...... oh, I don't know about you but 'I needs a break'!

lostnadream - I know Sun didn't die.

To clarify what I said, Sun, like some of the Others, got pregnant on the island. If Sun stayed on the island to give birth, she like the "Other" women who gave birth on the island, would have died.

Apollo 815: You can read the eppy transcript on Lostpedia for exact, but I recall she said "We could go for coffee. We'd go dutch" I thought at the time (still do) that she was consciousness tripping. Her near-death experience via the anti-matter/atomic blast did something to her to bridge her consciousness in the island reality to her self in an alternate reality in the multiverse that Darlton seem to have served up for us this season.

Hi Patty, Miss Pants, Pryce and
"others" i'm forgetting.

I haven't posted in many weeks but
I've been actively on the boards
getting my 2 cents in from
everyone. Great posts by all!

It took forever for S6 to get here
and I'm just enjoying the ride from
here on out, disappointed or not.
Lost has captured my mind, body and
soul. This is one of the shows
that I'm really gonna hate seeing
go.

Anywho, I was thinking, after all
the mind blowing, WTF moments Lost
and TPTB have given us.. what was
the most WTF moment the series has
delivered thus far? I'd like to
hear others opinions on the matter.
I've been blown away by so many
eppy's and thing's that have
happened and I come to one
conclusion for the biggest WTF
moment for me.

WTF Moment #1-- I believe it was
the opening of S2 or possibly S3,
and the underwater island opening
this year very much reminded me of
it. But, here it is.. when we see
the pan view of the others village
for the first time and seeing them
live in harmony shocked the
absolute poop outta me! I know,
there are prob better, but I loved
that one. It was without a doubt
the biggest WTF moment for me so
far. Looking back, it might not be
that grand as we are all privy to
so much info now, but then, whoa,
awesome!

strolls in, sees the big X and pulls out a rich green color fat marker pen, draws seven concentric rings intersecting the X, making it a bagua. Walks away humming Brian Wilson's 'Good vibrations'.

Calls out to Red Raider---that's an interesting observation about the biblical reference tie-in to flight #'s 815 and 316. Good one.

Heya Pryce---that sunken Island is itching my brain too. I agree the combination of the atomic blast along with the huge release of 'strange matter' from the pocket produced unique results unlike an atomic blast normally would have. That's the only way I can rationalize seeing the sunken Island looking only moderately disarrayed rather than pulverized at the bottom of the sea. That would be nonsensical results for normal physics. I have to take exception to one statement you made--Sun didn't die in child birth. Her Island conceived baby was born off-island and is being cared for by her mother when she jetted back for her second Island adventure to find Jin. That baby may be a 'special' child also.

LostBrerMatt - There was something that Ben had said regarding the statue but I can't remember.

However, regarding the Statue, which most believe is partly the god of fertility, it makes sense that both incidents, women dying during pregnancy and the statue collapsing, would occur at the same time. I kinda knew it might be the case during the Season 5 finale, because up until that point, in 1977, women would live after giving birth...as Juliet witnessed. Logically, at this point, the conclusion is that The Incident is the only thing that would be the cause.

After the incident, excluding the purge, which wouldn't effect either issue, there is no indication of a possible cause.

The only thing I can think of would be the "sickness" Danielle talked about...but she, much like Claire, were able to give birth on the island. Similiar to what happened to Locke and Co., during the time jump flashes, it could've been an issue of both Claire and Danielle being already pregnant, but being on the island for a short period of time. That, allowed them to give birth, where as someone like Sun, as conception was done on the island and because of how long she had been on the island, which her case was similiar to the Others, would suffer the same fate as the Other women and die. Maybe the button pushing allowed for some women like Claire and Danielle to live, but people like Sun and the Other women, not to.

However, The Incident in one form or another happened in both timelines and I believe it not only caused the Statue to collapse but also in the present timeline, caused women on the island to die during pregnancy, etc, etc.

Regarding the present timeline.

If you remember back in the Season 2 finale, the choas that was caused when Desmond didn't push the button. I'm thinking it was 5-10x that, because it was free flowing, and because Dharma had no failsafe or protection installed yet...not realizing what would occur.... like it did when Desmond was able to stop it which was after the fact, and maybe much like what we saw at the end of Season 2, with Desmond turning the failsafe, only a lot bigger, there was a massive release of electromagnetivity back in 1977.

There might have been a break or in between the chaos, Radzinsky and Co., along with Pierre, had to act quickly, and seal off the leak with cement, insert the failsafe and button...(like everything we saw when we first saw the Swan)....and Radzinsky was forced to stay down there to make sure the button was pushed.

Sideways timeline:
With the detonation of the bomb, ONTOP of the electromagnetivity, that pretty much atomized an entire layer of foundation that the island was on, causing an earthquake/complete surface disruption, ala Broken Arrow, caused the Statue to collapse, and then the island to sink.

I don't know if somebody else has already brought this up, but is it possible that Jack had deja vu from an alternate timeline in the season 3 finale? When John said, "Jack... you're not supposed to do this," Jack looks confused until the phone call snaps him out of it. His confused look is similar to some of his deja vu moments on the plane in LA X. Just wondering if anybody else has thought about this or has any theories about it.

which destroyed the Statue, causing it to

In the original timeline, prior to any time
traveling and Jughead, we see the four-toed
foot statue and base from the sailboat with
no body.

Now post-Jughead, we see the same base
and foot underwater.

Is it the Incident that caused the statue to be
destroyed in both timelines, but in the new
timeline, it was Incident+Jughead?

The other thought related to this is that in
both timelines, the Incident still happened.
One was triggered by drilling that caused the
energy to be released, one was caused by
the bomb which caused the energy to be
released. I don't really know what that
means, though. :)

lostnadream - Missed the mag. Good catch. The truth IS out there.

O.K. I talked about the island last time, now I suppose its time to finish the plane sequence. First, we see Jack only gets one bottle of vodka this time. The producers said this was significant. The first time around he used the second bottle of vodka to pour onto his wound while Kate held her chunks and stitched him up.

Second, Bernard returns from the bathroom to sit by Rose. Last time he ended up in a tree with the Other, Other, Others, known as the Tailies. He did fasten his seatbelt rather quick though, didn't he?!?!

Third, Jack talks with Desmond(!) on the plane and Jack seems to recognize Des but not the other way around. Did 'new Des' lose his "ability"? Did Jack gain it? Jack does appear very nervous on the plane.

Fourth, we see Jack and Sayid run to the rescue to open the bathroom door where we see Charlie lying unconscious on the floor. Jack, a surgeon, was ready to use a pen(?) to open the airway; not something typically used for such a purpose. (More repressed memories, perhaps)? When he revives Charlie he gets the reply, "You should have let me die". As he returns to his seat, Des is nowhere to be found! After he arrives at the airport terminal, he learns that his dad is missing also! ???

Wrapping up. For those who missed it, the latest episode of Fringe could have the alternate title 'Here There Be Monsters'! You must watch to find out. Fringe, V, and Flashforward are on standby until we see the next few episodes of Lost, then all shows resume in late March. The producers stated that Lost would wrap its first four or five episodes up with backstories and flashes then the storyline would be straight forward from the on; this straight-on storyline would start playing out in mid March. Coincidence?!?!

Isn't the whole point of Lost simply that all stories point to the same thing?!?! Everything that rises must converge. Lost has got to be the biggest Schroedinger's Cat Experiment in existence! Except in Schroedinger's experiment, the box didn't disappear! Just imagine the quantum equations we would have going today if the cat was gone when he opened the lid?!?!?!?!

OK, this is my final mental spew for the night, whew! I had a lot stored up over the week that I couldn't get on-line.
Did anyone else feel these events were Foreshadowing:
Jack on the plane looks like someone who has fallen headfirst into a BIG deja vu pond. His sudden affliction with a neck laceration (mystery!), following the air turbulence; bumping into Kate on the way to the bathroom to check out his neck, then looking at this puzzling wound and at himself in the mirror; you can see his bewilderment even with his own imageas though its not quite a fit with what some part of his consciousness expects. Its like he's experiencing phantom limb syndrome-but the limb is his alternate life! When he returns to his seat, there's Desmond! Finally the concatenation of dejas vu brings Jack to verbalize his uncertainty with the question "Have we met?" ( Might there be a multiverse convergence to come?)

Guilt-ridden assassin, our dying Sayid, speaking of his imminent (or perhaps immanent if Jacob is resurrected in his)death, Wherever Im going, it cant be very pleasant (A foreshadowing that doesnt bode well for Sayid.)

Did anyone notice the back of Roses magazine? Its a picture of a flying saucer, with the tagline above it, The truth is out there. Hmmmmmm.

Favorite quotes:
Jacob, appearing to Hurley within minutes of the time- flash near the imploded Swan hatch: Got a minute? (good one, nice temporal joke)
Sawyer to Cindy the stewardess (an Other in anotha life) Whats going on back there, Earheart? (One of his best characteristics still at work. Yaaay.)
Hurley: Can you fix Sayid, Jack? No. Then youre gonna have to let me do it. (You go Hurley!)
Jack: Watch your step as their group approaches the hole in floor below the Temple wall (that opens down to Smokys lair where Ben fell and was judged. (Ha,haeyes in the back of your head wont save you from Smoky if he wants you!)
UnLocke, smugly: Im sorry you had to see me like that. ( Smoky the death serpent)
Ben, whining to UnLocke: You used me! (Hah, the user gets used!)
UnLocke: Im not a What, Ben, Im a Who (Yeaah but---what kinda who? I bet not from any Whoville wed want to visit!)
Unlocke, giving Ben the old squint-eye, I want to go home. (Brrrrrrr!)
Sayid, raised from the dead at the Spring: What happened?(now, there hangs a tale!)

Whew, catching up on premiere week takes a lotta time! Many of you thought the same as I was thinking, only said it better. I don't think I have any different theories to contribute, but I'll just throw out some of my obwervations and questions. There was soooooo much to think about:
Questions:
Where did Jacobs body in the fire go? It takes a long time for a body to burn, but his is gone!
Jacob says: I was killed by an old friend who grew tired of my company. Does he refer to MIB, via his tool, Ben? If so, then UnLocke =Smoky=MIB, would he not?
Sawyer warns Hurley on the plane against announcing hes a lottery winner, that people will take advantage of him. He says this with a predatory look. Later, he abets Kates escape at LAX elevator, not snitching her off to the TSA guys next to them. Does this mean hes still on the wrong side of the law?
Where are the numbers in this sideways universe? The only numbers I recall: the pilot announces 72 degrees, 6 miles visibility and winds 5 mph at LA_X , later we hear a 3-41 code given by TSA agents in elevator, and see a 7-5-1 door access code. Some of you noticed seat assignment numbers, none of which were the familiar numbers either. Is this another manifestation of a Bizzaro universe?
I never saw/heard any reference to the flight being 815, though the conjunction of so many of the characters on the flight leads one to believe it may be a parallel or alternate 815. I didnt see any date references, did anyone else? I saw an image blowup at another site, of Sayids passport; but the date was somewhat illegible and the year looks like it could be either2004 or 2007.
Why does the Customs agent refer to Sun as Ms. Paik, yet Jin on plane, possessevely orders her to button her sweater (sadly, just like the old chauvinist husband Jin).

What I'm curious about, is what happened to the lighting and look of LOST?

Everything starts out natural and then progresses to a studio look. All shows are like that, but why?

Example, the 815 side by side on youtube.

I didn't realize how much of a change the show has undergone regarding the overall look. I have to wonder if it's a budget thing?

revolution_ismy_name - I wouldn't say obilerated the island. If that were the case the statue and barracks, etc, would be gone period. The reason they were shown was to have an idea of perspective, and they were the only significant and identifiable objects we've seen, and because the Temple wasn't shown yet...although, much like the Statue and Barracks, I would imagine it was still partly intact.

Think of the movie Broken Arrow or even Chain Reaction. When a nuclear or hydrogen bomb was detonated underground, it caused a massive disturbence underground which also created a ripple effect on the surface...but not to the extent that was caused under the surface.

Because the bomb was so far down the hole I feel like it destroyed the foundation the island was settled on, causing it to sink, the ripple effect on and to the surface caused a massive earthquake and disruption of the surface, which destroyed the Statue, causing it to fall into the ocean, sans the foot and base, severly damaged the barracks but didn't destroy them completely, and damaged the Temple and any other standing buildings.

How long it took the island to sink is questionable. A whole layer of the island's foundation was most likely atomized in a second. It took seconds for the World Trade Towers to fall, 2 hours for the Titanic to sink, so depending on how long it took for the island to sink, there might have been the faintest of survival. Besides the Donkey Wheel, there might have been an additional portal to get on and off the island....which some could have used, like Widmore, Eloise, or even Richard. It has yet to be explained how Richard got off the island all those times.

True on Claire and Locke and Claire's dream. Extreme foreshadowing.

'Sall good, Rev, say on - I see I just got bogged down in semantics, but I'm completely with you on the concepts. I didn't see this interview you speak of, but I always felt that, absolutely, both realities are just that - REALITIES.

And ya know what we see in both realities? That apparently these people were darn well destined to interact and intersect, and that neither reality is nearly ideal or perfect. It's not like "oh boy, the plane didn't crash, now everthing'll be beautiful and all fixed". Right off the bat with Charlie's arrest and Kate's being persued, troubles are far from "washed away" as Joe Purdy would say. Question is, which reality will be more redeeming? Or will they/can they only be redeemed if they intersect?

Lostbrer,

No, Eloise shoots Faraday in '77. He arrives on the sub when Miles, Jack,Sawyer Kate, Juliet, Jin, Hurley, and Sayid are all in '77. Widmore (a younger version) is there when Richard brings Ben to the Others' camp from the temple after being shot by Sayid. So Widmore and Eloise were not off the island in 1977. Eloise didn't leave the island til sometime after shooting Faraday and Widmore didn't get exiled from the island til years later.

revolution_ismy_name: I thought Eloise shot Faraday in the 50s when Jughead first got to the island.
Widmore and Eloise were off island in 77.

onefalseproffet: The black/white theme seems significant. Nothing so far leads me to believe that
sideways Aaron is any sort of constant though.

Shall we count off who may have been off island in 1977 who was there previously?
Widmore, Eloise... Maybe Charlotte? Chang was on island... so does that mean no Miles?

I'm just wondering, if Juhead stopped the Dharma Initiative's (and Widmore) activities on the island, did
they stay active off island? Will they begin to touch our no-longer-lostaways lives?

Pretty sure with Jughead going off, that didn't kill Jacob. I think we will see him in the sideways timeline.
And since Christian's body disappeared, maybe Jacob will manifest to Jack as Christian.

onefalse,

Yes. The Backgammon reference was a reference to light vs. dark. Locke even said it himself. It plays a key role, if not then they wouldn't have had Locke going into such detail explaining it to Walt and using those exact words. The stones on "Adam and Eve" is also a cryptic clue. Claire's dream was ominous but telling. Jacob/Nemesis were battling over control of Locke, hence one black eye and one white. There were many times it almost seemed like he was very kind and benevolent (Jacob?) , confused, lost, and deceitful to an extent (himself), flat out devious in actions and mannerisms at times (Nemesis?)

As far as Claire's visit to Malkin, I think Aaron is very critical, or else the Others wouldn't have wanted him so badly, Claire wouldn't have appeared to Kate telling her not to bring Aaron back. I think Aaron has great importance because Malkin admitted himself to Eko when he was at his house that he was a bogus Psychic that he basically did it just to scam people for money, but when he did Claire's reading he was obviously spooked by something very real and dark. So perhaps Aaron has some kind of destiny to fulfill for goodness and if anyone but Claire raises him he'll be used for a malicious agenda.

LostBrer,

If the bomb did indeed go off then in effect Widmore, D.I., and the others would all be dead. Widmore because he was still on the island in 1977 when Eloise shot Farday, and the Others and the Temple would be obliterated. I think that's why we got the shot of the camera zooming down from the plane into the ocean and the island being submerged underneath it and they made extra sure to pan past the Dharma compound and the remnants of the Tawaret statue.

As far as Desmond he would never have met Penny seeing as how she would never have been born and therefor he wouldn't have been on his boat and wound up on the island. So in effect the bomb going off would have taken out several key elements in the story of the island.

I've been visiting this site ever since Season 5. This is my first post. I have a question. I don't know if this has ever been addressed or answered but I recently started Season 1 again and I am paying attention to every detail I can. In the first episode Locke explains to Walt the origin of the game Backgammon. He says there are 2 sides, a light and a dark, and he holds up a white piece and a black piece. A few episodes later when Jack finds the caves and they find the dead bodies there, there is a pouch on one of the bodies that held 2 stones or jewels. These stones or jewels were white and black. Then a few more episodes in when Claire is dreaming that someone stole her baby, she sees Locke sitting at a table with Tarot Cards. When he looks up his eyes are white and black. This does lend to the Good vs. Evil side of Lost. Also in the episode 'Raised By Another' the psychic talks to Claire about how she needs to raise the baby and no other. This still has yet to be concluded. Could Aaron be the constant? Ideas or thoughts?

LostBrerMatt - It's safe to say the transmission Sam and Leonard heard never happened...thus as Hurley said in LA.X he was the luckiest man alive.

So that being said, and this being Sideways Hurley, he either won or will win the lottery based on how lucky he is. The relevance of the numbers used/on the ticket, and whether they were the key is unknown.

Also, besides the events you spoke of and Flight 815, Juliet is effected, Henry Gale, Danielle and Alex, Remi and the Drug Plane, Widmore and his crew including Daniel, Charlotte, Miles, Naomi, Lapedius, etc, etc.

It will be interesting to see what happened to the Others and Jacob and MIB in the Sideways timeline. Don't think Jacob had time to knit a boat together, before the island sank. haha.

I have a general type of question inspired by what maryrovr posted: what will be the implications,
the aftermath, the causality of trying to change the past

Starting at 1977, what things have The Others/Dharma/Widmore been involved with that could have
been affected by changing things?

To get us started, we have:
- Ben's network of people
- Widmore's search for the island
- Desmond doesn't get stranded while racing in his boat, brotha
- Kelvin woulod not come to the island

Can you think of anything else?

Re: Widmore - Widmore seems tied in to the Hanso Foundation and Paik Heavy Industries. Paik still
seems to have the same history based on Jin's path in the flash-sideways, so if Widmore is not
searching for the island, what is he up to. Or is he still searching for the island, but it's sunken version?

I also have a more specific question:
Sam Toomey and Leonard Sims heard the numbers about 16 years before Hurley's visit to Australia
(which I place in 2004), so about 1988. Hurley got the numbers from Leonard while he was in the
mental institution.
If Jughead sinks the island in 1977, I'd assume Sam and Leonard never hear the numbers (at least from
the island). So, did Hurley play 4-8-15-16-23-42 to win the lottery, or did he win with different,
luckier numbers?

ETA: pryce - interesting about the supply drops... Lostpedia has an article "Periodic resupply drops" that
indicates 6-8 months, but Sayid finds a manual in the Flame that says the code "24" will initiate the
supply drop. Also the "Mysteries of the Universe" videos say that a supply drop accidentally landed on
Tonga. Doesn't explain who kept sending them... Also, I never saw anywhere a good explanation of
what the DI 9FFTR731 code might mean.

Caduceus - If that's what they said, I think they were wrong because how else would Kelvin and Desmond have survived for 3+ yrs without supplies? Not only them but the Others too, living in the Barracks. I read somewhere that the food/supply drops came every 6 months.

YoSoy,

Flash is meant hypothetically/metaphorically , not literally. They didn't actually flash into an alternate reality. It's the actual reality of the 815 passengers (with a few variations, no Shannon, Desmond is on the plane, etc.) It's like the writers are giving both sides of the coin as to Jughead going off/not going off. Basically making us wonder which one is the legitimate one. They said in an interview after the premier that both versions of reality are real, it's just a matter of which one will be the prevailing one , and that they may very well intersect. Like Hurley said, Australia is the key to the whole game.

Thanks, totally get that part - the concept of a parallel flash, cool. What I'm wondering is - you said it's a flash, not an alternate reality. I was/am trying to sort that part out, 'cuz I can't help viewing it as an alternate - and yep, parallel - reality. Did I explain better this time? :)

YoSoy,

It's not a flash forward, or flashback, it's basically sideways because it's running "parallel". The writers are trying to give the viewers a look at both possible outcomes during the final season. One scenario where the bomb going off worked, and another scenario where it didn't and they're still on the island.
