KoRoBaRo walks into the Work & Lurk Cafe and removes his RayBans. Looking around he spies OldManFan in the corner, smiles, and wishes him a GoodMorning! KoRoBaRo pours himself a coffee and goes and sits at OldManFan's table, takes a deep breath, leans over and begins sharing his Ridiculous KoolAid Kids Cult Theory...
One thing that always struck me about all the characters and initially appealed to me, was how emotionally unstable they all were. They masked that manic state well...but as we spent more time with these characters, we discover just how "Suicidal" they all were.
-Jack could barely keep it together and at one point was going to end it by jumping off a bridge.
-Kate was a murdering fugitive with no place left to run who also caused the death of a true love, who's own mother turned her back on...I would understand if she was at a breaking point.
-Sawyer was a conman who became everything he grew up hating, the self loathing must have been terrible. Plus he's an ex-con with a kid and he murdered an innocent man. He was running out of road fast.
-Claire was just making all the wrong moves, looking for love in all the wrong places. Her mother was in a coma because of her. Her man bolted and left her with his deposit. Some drunk daddy shows up and wants to connect but the timing stinks. She just wants to "Walk Away" from it all.
-Locke...Holy Crap...too easy...the whole creepy "Helen" phone sex deal, and pretty much everything...and in the end he was swinging from the rafters.
-Micheal couldn't eat a bullet fast enough or write off his car quick enough to escape what life gave him.
-Hurley was so familiar with apparitions that becoming one would not be such a giant leap of faith...say off a cliff.
-Charlie was gonna cook himself a cocktail sooner or later that would just take him away with his syringe being his lady of mercy.
-Desmond killed Inman and was locked up alone for along time in a place that was known for making people want to blow their brains out...I know he found redemption, but I have a theory about Desmonds happiness being fleeting, or not "Meant to be." For the record I'm rooting for Desmond beating the odds, but I don't think that's what's in the cards..."The Island is not done with you." ...crap! There goes his happy ending...hope I'm wrong.
-Shannon was soo messed up and, dare I say, abused? Something was really "off" about her. If we discovered she attempted suicide after she was with Boone, well, I wouldn't be shocked.
-Sayid was starting to crack. He could not play "the Instrument of Death" much longer. His emerging conflicted psyche is ripping him apart. His need for love was used to manipulate him to work for Ben, and was constantly placing him in the path to become a victim as well...He had a "Death Wish."
-Sun was torn by the world she grew up in. She watched her man be destroyed by that world and almost completely lost the love they shared. She wanted to escape and abandon her entire life. The death of her murdered lover was a stain on her soul. She was responsible. That could have driven her away from it all...she was ready for the end of all things.
For me, I can be honest and say that, yes, I believe that most of these characters were in a suicidal mental state of some type. So, inorder to get from A to B, I have to ask if that could lead to anything? Could that be a connection to it all. Looking at group suicide, what if someone like Ben or Jacob came to them in a moment of need and preyed upon them...telling them they could go somewhere else where things would be different, better? I'm trying to think of how the Chronicles of Narnia would factor into this idea.
These characters were Lost souls who were brought to The Island to be used as pawns in a game. The Island reminds me of "The Land of the Lost" in the sense that everything is "Fractured." The science, the mythology, the reality...it's recognizable but yet unreal.
I guess I'm trying to point out that we have an Island of highly unstable characters who have access to powers that they do not understand and cannot control. They are proven to be capable of violent and destructive and murderous intent and they are on a suicide mission. The end so far as we know it to this point is the detonation of "Jughead" and the mass murder of all present on the island at that time. "Jack and his League of Suicide Bombers." ...is that why they are chosen? Because they are all suicidal??
Whew!! KoRoBaRo leans back and takes a deep breath, his head spinning. The coffee isn't working anymore...there goes the cafine buzz. He stands up, stretching, and heads for the door. Can't wait to hear OMF'S reation to all this...beyond crying balderdash!! ...please forgive the Hurley-Sized Post.
