YuKai: I was one of those who did not know the full extent of what happened. I was amazed that this took place. I believe it won because, not only did it tell a story that many did not know, but in the way that it was told it showed how the efforts of one to extend his own life, how he was able to "succeed" and how that success eventual took its toll, and how eventually the efforts of one turned the tide of their operation...throughtout the film there was a sense of pride in the work they were carrying out, how they longed for a sense of normalcy, and for them this was as close as they could get, and then at the later part of the film, where the actual work started to affect them in ways they didn't forsee, the pride was rewarded. It was beautifully told, extremely well executed, and how amazing it was to see the main character carrying the body of the one prisoner who just needed to wait until the end of the war...that sequence stayed with me for many days afterwards, and is seered into my memory forever...when a film is able to achieve something like that, and linger with you for days, it deserves awards. Perhaps your knowledge of the story prevented you from enjoyng it as I did. But, I know one day we will find a film that we both see and find amazing...it's coming, I know it! Did you see it with Diamondlife? and if not...
Diamondlife: Yes, you did tell me that you had seen Amores Perros...I then replied a few days later, explaining, briefly, that I'm a guy, and as much as I do like the guy, I couldn't join in the hottness factoring....he does act circles around his peers though, you are completely correct on that one.... and Yu Kai is correct, you MUST see the mini first...it is worth the watch and you will be jumping on the bandwagon with the rest of us, I am sure of that. It is great. What films are you guys looking forward to this year?
I for one am totally looking forward to The Dark Knight...I hope it is better than Batman Begins, which is by far my favorite Batman film and quite possibly my favorite superhero film, only Spiderman 2 comes close, but I never can keep one on top of the Best list for too long, the consistently trade places....
There are many films coming to us this year: Indy, Ironman, Star Trek, X-Files... and I would have to say Mulder and Scully come in 2nd for me....
Patty and Loca: Count me in for the road trip, don't know the band, you'll need to fill me in on that one...but, who cares, anywhere my fellow Dharmaknights go, I am sure to follow....
