I really, really didn't love it! Infact, I thought the episode sucked--and I never think that Lost sucks. I just think that this episode lacked substance. It was all just smoke and mirrors. Not much real information was dished out, not anything we hadn't already guessed anyway. So Ben's a liar. No big shock there. The Others are actually bad. Uh yeah, no kidding! Locke got in over his head. Well who didn't see that coming? Did I expect Locke to get shot? No, but I doubt that he will stay dead. After Mikhail's resurrection and the creepy Grizzly Adams ghost in the rocking chair, I suppose anything can happen.
And why was all of the potenially interesting dialog missing from the beach camps scenes? I wanted to see Sayid's and Kate's inital reactions to the tape recorder. I wanted to see Sayid call everyone to the meeting and spill the beans about Naomi. But no, all of that was either cut out, or no one ever even bothered to write it.
To me this whole episode just felt like the writers are getting lazy. Like they think that as long as the ending of an episode is shocking, it doen't matters what they put in the beginning and the middle.
In my opinion, the dots just aren't connecting in an interesting way. I certianly hope that the next two weeks are a lot better than this one. But if the preview for next week is any indication, it doesn't look too hopeful.

Thats it for me as well. Its just not making any sense! I refuse to watch a show for another three seasons and them continually telling me that it will make sense in the end. Well I guess I will just catch the last few episodes for season 6....
No confontation at the beach. Jack gets away with saying "I hadn't decided what to do" ????????? Who the ell died and left him in charge? Everyone of them is wishy washy about the Others...so now Sun had a bit of bonding with Juliet, and now she doesn't think she's so bad??? Did we forget that Charlie was hung by them, did we forget poor Steve who was killed by them? The only thing that made me laugh was Naomi's comment, but not because of the story, but its how I feel about the characters!! Plus, very ODD place to put her comment. It didn't flow with the scene...
As for Locke and the whole Ben flashback....meh. I was shocked that Locke was shot, but its not going to take. Notice it wasn't in the heart, so not lethal, note that Ben told Locke that he better hope Jacob will save him, note that Jacob talked to Locke, note that Jacob is able to cure cancer...only POSSIBLE outcome....Locke is far from dead.
As for Jacob. WTF??? We have just really gone off the deep end here. I just don't know what to think about that whole scene. Sure its flashy, but it didn't tell us ANYTHING about Jacob, other than he may or may not be real....
The Others are the stupidest people I know. They have been following Ben for how long now because why?? Why hasn't Richard aged. He must be much older than Ben, and he fell for his pack of lies?? How is it that Ben knows Jacob, and the rest don't? What is Jacob? How did Ben come to be the only one to see him?
Lastly the whole story is just becoming too convoluted and not making sense as we go. We have heard that there is a smoke monster, voices in the woods, a box that gives you anything, a sickness that kills people, pregant women die, wild animals from zoos roam the island, there was an incident, there is the Dharma Initiative, there is the Hanslo Foundation, there is a group of original people on the island, there is a slave ship, there is some kind of force around the island making it "invisible", one of the characters can time travel, and also sees the future AND Walt was a special child....am I forgetting anything???
So they have some great story that will tie all these plot points together to make sense....I just don't want to waste the next three years of my life waiting for it to make sense!!!!
I will say that Lock was great in the episode, and if they had any balls they would keep him dead....
Ugh, I really, really didn't like this episode. Hardly anything was answered. Which doesn't normally bother me. But he new questions weren't interesting to me.
If that's Jacob, I don't care and don't want to know anymore. Too supernatural for me.
Smokey=Ben's Mom=Whispers. Cool. That was the only cool part. We didn't even get to see Ben's childhood girlfriend die in the hostile raid. WTF that was so obvious. So why didn't they show her??
Killing his dad? I just totally hated how it played out. The whole set up from Hurley's episode didn't work for me either. I didn't care about freaking Roger Work Man.
Killing Locke? Mildly surprising. His wheelchair story was done, and TOQ seemed done with Lost, so I wasn't terribly surprised. I wish he hadn't died before getting more answers for the fans, but whatever. I never liked Locke. Ever.
I'm confused about DHARMA and the Hostiles and how Inman fits in and Jacob and Alex... and someday I hope to find out. But right now? I honestly don't care very much.
I was stoked for a Ben FB and this totally fell flat for me.
Forgot to add how dissapointed I was about the beach stuff. Sun, Kate, Claire, Jin, EVERYONE should have had screen time to react. Jack's response? RIDICULOUS. And if they let him get away with that and just back to being their leader (dictator), I am going to be really annoyed.
I didn't love this as much as I expected to. In fact, the episode wasn't what I expected at all, in terms of FB and present content. It had its moments, but it wasn't the total stunner that last week's episode was. Now THAT was a Lost episode. This one was good, it was interesting, but I came away thinking "uhhh wtf?" more than anything else. Which I kind of like, but also not, in some ways.
Overall, I think I liked the parts of this episode that happened in the present time.
What I did not like was Ben's flashback. I also agree that I didn't care about
"Roger Work Man" and I felt that was contrived. I felt a lot of things were contrived.
The writers took a lot of little meaningless facts (like the existence of a blue VW)
and peppered the flashback with them. I never got the feeling that any of what we
were seeing was planned. Instead, the writers just worked with what had been revealed
and tried to tie it all together. The sonic fence and how Mikhail survived it. The sub.
The APOLLO bars. Roger Work Man (Please, God! Make it stop!). Just a lot of crap
thrown at the wall in order to try to make it look like all of this stuff wasn't made up
spur of the moment (which it obviously was). That's really sad. What a disappointment
Ben's flashback was. The only interesting parts of the flashback: 1. Richard Alpert in
the woods and 2. Ben's mom in the woods. The rest was terrible.
The scenes on the beach were filler, except for Jack's unsurprising reveal, but
Locke's scenes kept this episode from being a total loss.
I know more about Jacob will be revealed, but honestly, I had such a WTF moment that I almost turned off the tv. He's invisible? He's a ghost? Do I care?... not so much.
I as bored by the time we saw Roger get his Workman Dharma uniform.
Jacob is really a fake and Ben really is the man behind the curtain? Jacob is real and isn't fully there? Who cares. I would have rather Jacob been a computer or a volleyball (Wilson). Why didn't Richard age? I don't care. Locke is shot? Who couldn't see that coming? Alex gave him a gun, but given the chance, he didn't shoot Ben. Will Locke die? If he does, then I will be shocked. We all know he will pop up during the season finale or next week. He probably will kill Ben.
Ben's flashback was pure fluff. He had Daddy issues. Everyone on the show does. He killed his father. We saw Kate do that in Season 1, and Locke just had Sawyer kill Cooper.
The great news is they gave Locke a glorious final script. He found his brain and didn't believe Ben's schtick for a moment, even when he started in on the "you're special" bit. Mikhail's whooping was gratitious fun.
I'm pretty sure he's dead because otherwise all his grand dialogue and moments last night would have been for nought. The writers sent the man out in style. ~Cheers~ ~Big Toast~ to Locke, he was the MAN last night!
Everything else sucked.
Dharma Inititative Member = Bad Actor. The theme, or equation, of the night.
I could forgive Ben's hair but it's gonna take an exorcism to get that jacob scene out of my head. Not because it was scary, but because it was scarily bad. I hope they're done with Jacob.
Not the big pay off I was expecting. Absolutely nothing was revealed about Dharma, other then how they were killed off...and once again, you could have skipped the first 45 minutes of the show and not missed anything.
The timelines of several plots introduced over the last 3 season are starting to overlap and not hold up under scrutiny.
The only thing that saved it from a total loss was the ending, which did catch me by surprise.
